I am so tired of watching reports on the war on TV news each night. I support the troops, but this is turning into another Vietnam. I don't want it to change and they become hated just for doing what the country asked them to do. Vietnam vets were treated so unkind.

So, what you ask, did I hear on my ipod to get me writing on this? Black Sabbath's War Pigs. Released September 18, 1970 in the UK & January 1, 1971 in the US, it is a song short on lyrics, but powerful none the less. I found a video of it on Youtube, circa 1970, and I included the lyrics.

Last night I saw the movie Across The Universe. I loved it. It began with Jude (Jim Sturgess), sitting on a quiet beach front singing "Girl", and ends with "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" playing during the end credits. In between is some fantastic music and a pretty good story as well. You have to know the Beatles' catalog to get the subtle references to their songs sprinkled throughout the movie. It is fun to try and find them. Names alone: Lucy, Jude, Sadie, Mr. Kite, Dr. Robert, Prudence, JoJo, Rita.

I love this song, not only the melody, but the words. Poetry, plain and simple - simply Lennon/McCartney. I can so relate to the second verse.

Little Carol came into the kitchen where her mother was making dinner. Her birthday was coming up and she thought this was a good time to tell her mother what she wanted. "Mom, I want a bike for my birthday."
Now, Little Carol was a bit of a troublemaker and had gotten into trouble at school and at home. Carol's mother asked her if she thought she deserved to get a bike for her birthday. Little Carol, of course, thought she did.

Carol's mother, being a Christian woman, wanted her to reflect on her behavior over the last year, and write a letter to God and tell him why she deserved a bike for her birthday. Little Carol stomped up the steps to her room and sat down to write God a letter.

I have been a very good girl this year and I would like a bike for my birthday. I want a red one.

Carol knew this wasn't true. She had not been a very good girl this year, so she tore up the letter and started over.

Carol walked down the street to the church and up to the altar. She looked around to see if anyone was there. She picked up a statue of the Virgin Mary, slipped it under her jacket and ran out of the church, down the street, into her house, and up to her room. Lessons of Love

A ninety-one year old woman died after living a long dignified life. When she met God she asked him something that had long bothered her. If Man was created in God's image, and if all men are created equal, why do people treat each other so badly?

God replied that each person who enters our life has a unique lesson to teach us. And it is only through these lessons that we learn about life, people,relationships and God. This confused the woman, so God began to explain.

When someone lies to you it teaches you that things are not always as they seem. The truth is often far beneath the surface. Look beyond the masks people wear if you want to know their heart. And remove your own masks to let people know yours.

When someone steals from you it teaches you that nothing is forever. Always appreciate what you have, for you never know when you might lose it. And never, ever take your friends and family for granted because today is the only guarantee you have.

When someone inflicts an injury upon you it teaches you that the human state is a fragile one. Protect and take care of your body as best you can, it's the only thing you are sure to have forever.

When someone mocks you it teaches you that no two people are alike. When you encounter people who are different from you, don't judge them by how they look or act; instead base your opinion on the contents of their heart.

When someone breaks your heart it teaches you that loving someone does not always mean that person will love you back. But don't turn your back on love because when you find the right person, the joy that one person brings will make up for all the past hurts put together. Times ten.

When someone holds a grudge against you it teaches you that everyone makes mistakes. When you are wronged, the most virtuous thing you can do is forgive he offender without pretense. Forgiving those who have hurt us is the most difficult and courageous thing Man can do.

When a loved one is unfaithful to you it teaches you that resisting temptation is Man's greatest challenge. Be vigilant in your resistance against all temptation. By doing so you will be rewarded with an enduring sense of satisfaction far greater than the temporary pleasure by which you were tempted.

When someone cheats you, it teaches you that greed is the root of all evil. Aspire to make your dreams come true, no matter how lofty they may be. Do not feel guilty about your success, but never let an obsession with achieving your goals lead you to engage in malevolent activities.

When someone ridicules you it teaches you that nobody is perfect. Accept people for their merits and be tolerant of their flaws. Do not ever reject someone for imperfections over which they have no control.

Upon hearing the Lord's wisdom, the old woman became concerned that there were no lessons to be learned from Man's good deeds. God replied that Man's capacity to love is the greatest gift he has. At the root of all kindness is love, and each act of love also teaches us a lesson.

The woman's curiosity deepening, God once again began to explain. When someone loves us it teaches us that love, kindness, charity, honesty, humility, forgiveness and acceptance can counteract all the evil in the world. For every good deed, there is one less evil deed. Man alone has the power to control the balance between good and evil, but because the lessons of love are not taught often enough, the power is too often abused.

When you enter someone's life, whether by plan, chance or coincidence, consider what your lesson will be. Will you teach love or a harsh lesson of reality? When you die will your life have resulted in more loving or hurting? More comfort or pain? More joy or sadness? Each one of us has power over the balance of love in the world. Use it wisely. Don't miss an opportunity to nudge the world's scale in the right direction.

Freezing temperatures are here!?

I just had to share. This is from the local newstation's weather report. It started with "Freezing temperatures are here!". The weather reporters are absolutely giddy down here. Just like when the hurricanes are coming. There is this scary look in their eyes.

"Yesterday's cold front has brought our coldest temperatures since last winter. In fact, the last time Orlando was 41 degrees or lower was March 6th. Areas north and west will need to protect plants due to frosty or even freezing weather.

Seeing Jim Croce died in 1973, it had been a while since I had really listened to his music. But I listened to this song the other night and damn, that could be me. Amazing Race

Tonight another race starts. I first started watching "The Amazing Race" because nothing else was on. I soon found that it was a very addictive show. For those who have never watched it, you should. This morning when I opened the door I could feel it. It was cooler; there was barely any humidity. I knew from living all my life here what the day was going to be like. Today was the first day it felt like fall. Temps in the low 70's, blue skies with no clouds in them, and like I said, barely any humidity. This will probably last about 2 months, if even that long, then it will get cold. A friend in PA called me today and told me it was sweater and coat weather up there.She lived down here for about a year and is torn. She misses, as she says, "All those Florida things", including the temps (even the 90's), but she is with her family in Bethlehem. Family is first to her.

At 500 am edt, 0900z, the center of tropical storm noel was located near latitude 22.1 north, longitude 78.2 west or about 50 miles, 85 km, north-northwest of camaguey cuba and about 205 miles, 335 km, south-southwest of nassau.
Noel is moving toward the north-northwest near 7 mph, 11 km/hr. A gradual turn toward the north is expected during the next 24 hours. This motion should bring the center of noel off the northern coast of cuba today and near the northwestern bahamas tonight.

I hear you guys up north talking about it. It got a little cooler (mid to lower 80's) for a couple of days. But today, it is 84; Heat Index: 90.

Oooooooooh. A cold front is heading our way.

One last day with highs around 90. Our front arrives Thursday and that means low to middle 80s Friday! The meteorologists down here are so excited. So what. We're leaving our "hot season" and moving into our "not-so-hot season" Whatever.

The originals always seem to be the best.

LOS ANGELES -- Britney Spears was ordered Monday to surrender custody of her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Superior Court Judge Scott M. Gordon ruled that Federline will take custody of Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, beginning Wednesday "until further order of the court."

The order stemmed from an unspecified oral motion made by Federline's attorneys and was handled in a closed-door hearing. The judge's order didn't state the reason for the change in custody and all transcripts of the proceedings were ordered sealed.

Phone messages left for representatives of Spears and Federline were not immediately returned Monday.

Last month, Gordon said Spears engaged in "habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol." He ordered the pop star to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week as part of her ongoing custody dispute with Federline.

Spears also was previously ordered to meet weekly with a "parenting coach" who was to observe and report back to the court about her parenting skills. Both Spears and Federline must complete the court's "Parenting Without Conflict" class.

Spears, 25, and Federline, 29, were wed in October 2004. She filed for divorce last November and it became official in July. The two have joint custody of their sons, but Federline is seeking a greater share of custody.

Since Spears became single, her troubles have played out in the tabloids. First she was photographed at various Hollywood hotspots partying with Paris Hilton.

Some photos captured Spears without panties. Then Spears shaved her head, beat a car with an umbrella and ended up spending a month in rehab.

An MTV Video Music Awards performance last month meant to herald her comeback was universally panned. The following week, Spears' management firm dropped her and her divorce lawyer resigned.

She then was charged with misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run and driving without a valid license for allegedly crashing into a parked car in August.

Spears' new album will be released Nov. 13.

At 11 am edt, the government of nicaragua has issued a hurricane warning for nicaragua from puerto cabezas northward to the honduras/nicaragua border. A hurricane warning is also in effect for honduras from limon eastward to the honduras nicaragua border. A hurricane warning means that hurricane conditions are expected within the warning area within the next 24 hours. Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion.

A hurricane watch is in effect for honduras west of limon, for the caribbean coast of guatemala, and for the entire coast of belize.

A tropical storm watch remains in effect for jamaica and for grand cayman. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, in this case within the next 24 hours.

Interests elsewhere in the western caribbean sea should closely monitor the progress of this potentially catastrophic hurricane.

At 1100 am edt, 1500z, the center of hurricane felix was located near latitude 14.3 north, longitude 77.8 west or about 265 miles, 425 km, south-southwest of kingston jamaica and about 365 miles, 585 km, east of cabo gracias a dios on the nicaragua/honduras border.

Felix is moving toward the west near 21 mph, 33 km/hr, and this general motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. On this track, the center of felix will be near the coasts of extreme northeastern nicaragua and northeastern honduras early on Tuesday morning.

Maximum sustained winds are near 160 mph, 260 km/hr, with higher gusts. Felix is a potentially catastrophic category five hurricane on the saffir-simpson scale. Fluctuations in intensity are common in major hurricanes, but felix is expected to maintain category four or five status through tonight and early Tuesday.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's.

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have PlayStation, Nintendo, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVDs, no surround-sound or CDs, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them.

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law.

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL.

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

Last night at just after 7:00 (Entertainment Tonight had just started), I caught this "flash" out of the corner of my eye. Another lightning strike. *shrug* Big deal down in Florida. But before I ever heard the thunder, I'm sitting in the dark. Great. No power. Which means no air conditioning, no ceiling fans, no TV, no computer and no lights, etc. And when the power is off, cell phone reception sucks. Power finally was restored at 9:08.

I must be getting soft, cause back in 2004, we went for sometimes up to 5 days with no power (BUT THAT WAS BECAUSE OF THE THREE HURRICANES!!!!!!!)

A hurricane warning is in effect for the entire coastline of belize and along the east coast of the yucatan peninsula of mexico from the belize/mexico border northward to cancun. A hurricane warning is also in effect along the west coast of the yucatan peninsula and the gulf coast of mexico from south of progreso southward and westward to veracruz. Preparations in the hurricane warning area along the gulf coast of mexico should be rushed to completion.
A tropical storm warning is also in effect along the northern coast of the yucatan peninsula from north of cancun to progresso.
A tropical storm watch also remains in effect for the following provinces of cuba, pinar del rio, la habana, and isla de la juventud.
Interests elsewhere in the southern gulf of mexico should closely monitor the progress of dean.

Dean is moving toward the west-northwest near 20 mph, 32 km/hr, and a west-northwestward to westward motion is expected today and tonight. On the forecast track the center will cross the yucatan peninsula today and likely reach the southern bay of campeche tonight.
Maximum sustained winds are near 165 mph, 270 km/hr, with higher gusts. Dean is a category five hurricane on the saffir-simpson scale. Although some weakening is forecast as dean crosses the yucatan peninsula, dean is expected to maintain hurricane strength throughout the next 24 hours.
